Bublup Privacy Policy
Revised October 9, 2024
Thank you for your interest in Bublup!
Please review our Privacy Policy in full and let us know if you have any questions. We tried to find the right balance between privacy and functionality, but if you are not comfortable with any part of the policy, please send us an email about your concerns (privacy@bublup.com) or simply stop using Bublup.
This policy applies to all our products and services, including our websites, applications, extensions, and mobile apps, which we will collectively refer to simply as “Bublup.”
Bublup's Privacy Tenets
We developed this policy based on seven key privacy tenets:
- Your personal information is extremely valuable to you.
- We must earn your trust through respectable business practices and a secure software platform.
- We will never sell your personal information.
- We will only save and use personal information with your consent and for the sole purpose of providing Bublup’s features and services.
- We will not share your personal information with anyone except as necessary to process your transactions, comply with the law, or protect Bublup and others from harm. We will always take all reasonable measures to ensure the confidentiality and security of your information.
- In the unlikely event of a security breach, we will promptly alert you if we discover that your personal information is compromised.
- We will delete your personal information if you terminate your account.
What information do we receive and/or retain and how do we use it?
Account / profile information
When you sign up for a Bublup account, you voluntarily give us some information about yourself as part of your profile. Your profile includes your name, email address, username, and optional profile picture. You might also choose to provide limited account information (which does not include your password) from companies like Facebook or Google to sign into Bublup. We associate your profile information with your account, and we use it to associate your stuff with you. We may also use your email address to notify you of upcoming changes or improvements to Bublup.
In some cases, Bublup shares your profile information with trusted third parties solely to process your requests while using our software. For example, your profile information may be necessary to complete your purchases. In these cases, we will share it with our explicit instructions in compliance with this Privacy Policy and other appropriate confidentiality and security measures. Please note that Bublup will never sell your profile information.
Bublup does not use any of your information for social profiling, and we do not track your interests or behaviors. In other words, we do not try to learn who you are based on how you use Bublup and the things you save. We do not read your notes, comments, or annotations. We do not populate your feed or suggest content based on information about you. Instead, we rely on the preferences you set and the public links you save as described in more detail below. You are in control.
Stuff you save
Bublup provides a way for you to save all your stuff in one place, including links to your favorite web pages, notes, photos, music, and files. We store this information so that we can provide it back to you when you need it, no matter where you are. You can also share your saved stuff with other people, in which case we will transmit it to them upon your request. We never share your privately saved information with other users unless you ask us to (e.g., you want to email a document to a friend).
Financial information
Usage and technical information
Bublup wants to provide the best user experience. We think that means offering content that is customized to your interests and preferences, making Bublup easy and convenient to use, and quickly resolving any issues that you may encounter. To achieve these goals, we use and sometimes retain information related to your use of Bublup. Whenever possible, we disassociate this information from your account so that it cannot be linked back to you. Please see the list below for an explanation of what we do with usage and technical information.
Web links that you view with Bublup
We do not retain any of your browsing history on our servers, but your web browser may retain this information so that you can easily return to previously visited pages. In our mobile app, you can manually delete your browsing history at any time. From your computer, your web browser will have its own settings for managing browsing history – please consult your browser’s documentation for more information.
Email addresses for people with whom you share content
Bublup enables you to easily share content with other people, including via email. For your convenience, we save the email addresses of people you contact so that you can more easily email them in the future. We do not use or share this information for any other purpose.
GPS location information
We do not presently receive, use, or retain GPS location information. In the future, we may offer location-based services. At that time, we will revise this policy accordingly.
IP address
We save your IP address(es) in our logs when you first create an account and when you use Bublup. We infer broad geolocation information from IP addresses to help us understand where people are using Bublup.
Cookies and other data stored on your computer or mobile device
We use cookies and similar types of data stored on your device to help us improve Bublup and make it more convenient for you. We generally classify cookies into four categories: essential, marketing, personalization, and analytics.
Essential cookies are necessary for our website to function. We store essential cookies to enable certain features and remember your preferences. For example, we store a cookie or equivalent technology on your device to remember that you have signed in so that you don’t have to sign in each time you use Bublup. We also store cookies to remember your cookie preferences, to allow you to sign in using your Google credentials, and to provide other basic website functionality. You may not opt out of these essential cookies, but you can manage all cookies in your browser’s settings as discussed in more detail below.
We only use one type of marketing cookie, provided by Meta, to study the effectiveness of our advertising campaigns on Facebook. You may opt out of marketing cookies by clicking on the “Cookie Preferences” link at the bottom of our web pages and customizing your choices.
Personalization cookies allow us to remember certain non-essential choices that you make while using Bublup. We do not currently use any personalization cookies, but you may still configure your cookie preferences to opt out of possible future personalization cookies.
Analytics cookies help us better understand how people collectively use Bublup. Specifically, we use Google Analytics and Mixpanel to help us calculate anonymous and aggregated usage statistics (e.g., 1,000 people saved the same link over a one-hour period). To better understand how Google Analytics works, please see Google’s privacy terms for partner sites here: https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites (note: Bublup does not currently use any of Google’s advertising features). To learn more about Mixpanel, please see its privacy site here: https://mixpanel.com/legal/privacy-overview/ . Google Analytics and Mixpanel cookies are non-essential, and you may choose to opt-out of their use by configuring your cookie preferences accordingly.
Non-Personal Usage Characteristics
We save characteristics about your browser (e.g., Chrome or Safari), computer (e.g., Windows or MacOS), and/or mobile device (e.g., Android or iOS) to help us troubleshoot problems and improve Bublup. We also save information about which Bublup features (e.g., notes and group folders) you use. We use this information to learn which features are popular in Bublup. We may also provide useful tips to our users based on whether or not they have used these features.
Support information
When you contact us, we may save your contact information to troubleshoot issues with Bublup or your account.
Other limited ways we may share your information
In very limited circumstances, we may share your information (including profile information, information you have saved, and other information that you may consider private) with trusted third-parties for reasons other than those discussed above. The sections below describe these limited circumstances.
Service providers
We may save and process your information with the help of trusted, third-party service providers. For example, we may contract with one or more reputable cloud service providers to securely maintain your data. These providers are legally obligated to act in accordance with our instructions and in a manner that complies with this Privacy Policy and other appropriate confidentiality and security measures.
We may also integrate software from trusted, third-party service providers to offer certain useful features. For example, we integrate YouTube content via the YouTube API Services so that you can save YouTube videos to Bublup. We do not share your information with these service providers, but their software may use cookies or similar technologies that are relevant to your privacy. Please see Google’s privacy policy at: http://www.google.com/policies/privacy to learn more about how Google manages your privacy when you view YouTube content and/or utilize other services provide by Google.
Our AI Creator feature integrates with ChatGPT, an AI language model developed by OpenAI. When you ask questions or supply other information to AI Creator, we share these queries with OpenAI. In accordance with a Data Processing Agreement between Bublup and OpenAI, OpenAI promises to only process your queries for the AI Creator feature based on our instructions and applicable data privacy and data protection laws.
We do not use any information you save or create with Bublup (including through our integrations with third-party services like Google Workspace) to develop, improve, or train generalized AI and/or ML models.
Law enforcement and security
We may share your information with trusted third-parties (like law enforcement and government agencies) to: (a) conform to or comply with the law; (b) enforce our Terms of Service, including the investigation of potential violations; (c) detect, prevent, or address fraud, security, or technical issues; or (d) protect and defend the rights, property, or safety of Bublup, our users, or the public as required or permitted by law. In all such cases, we will only share as much information as is reasonably necessary to comply with the law, regulation, or legal request.
General
We may share aggregated, non-personally identifiable information (e.g., “50% of our users use a mobile device”) publicly and with our business partners.
If Bublup is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, we will continue to ensure the confidentiality of your information and give you notice before transferring or subjecting your information to a different privacy policy.
How can you manage your privacy?
Right to access and control your information
You always have the right to access and control your information. Particularly, you can view and change information about you in your profile page at any time. You can also delete your account entirely by accessing the ACCOUNT INFORMATION page within Bublup. When you delete your account, we will deactivate it and remove your private information from Bublup. Particularly, we will delete your saved content and anonymize your reactions (e.g., likes and dislikes) in group folders that you do not own. Other users will see your reactions as belonging to an anonymous user. We cannot, however, alter notifications (i.e., prior messages to other users in a group folder). If you are the owner of a group folder, we will delete all content and reactions associated with that folder. Once we delete your information from our primary servers, we may still retain some archived copies in our backups for a commercially reasonable period of time.
If you want to take your data with you to another service or back it up somewhere else, you may download your data from Bublup to your computer at any time.
Managing cookies
You may opt out of receiving marketing, personalization, and analytics cookies by adjusting your cookie preferences at any time. You may also change your browser’s settings to delete existing cookies and/or warn you before accepting each new cookie. You also have the option to refuse all cookies entirely by turning them off in your browser. However, rejecting essential cookies may affect your ability to use Bublup as intended with all its functionality. Your browser or device may also have other capabilities for managing your privacy. Please visit your browser’s respective help pages for more information.
When using the in-app browser in Bublup’s mobile app, you may not reject cookies or delete individual cookies. You may, however, delete all cookies at any time by selecting the “Clear Cookies” menu option inside the browser.
Mobile platform permissions
The Android and iOS mobile platforms identify certain types of data (e.g., contacts, camera, etc.) that mobile apps cannot access without your permission. These platforms will alert you the first time the Bublup mobile app wants permission to access certain types of data, and you may choose to consent to that request. If you choose to withhold consent, some of the mobile app’s functionality may be unavailable to you. But please note that our mobile app will only access your device’s data for obvious reasons directly related to Bublup features. For example, the Bublup mobile app only accesses your device’s microphone when using our in-app camera to record sound.
