hybrid learning tips

Before Covid-19 swept the nation, students were taught in one of two ways: in the classroom, or through homeschooling. However, due to safety protocols during the pandemic, teaching has adapted into different methods. There’s still in-school learning and homeschooling, but now there’s also purely online learning and perhaps the most popular new method, hybrid learning. Hybrid learning sees students alternate between learning in the classroom and learning online. For some schools, hybrid learning means everyone comes in two times a week. For others, hybrid learning means some students come in some days, and other students come in others. Regardless of the method, hybrid learning is a new practice that schools and students are getting adjusted to, even after adopting it earlier in the pandemic. Students are being tasked with adjusting to two different types of learning, a daunting ask when added to their workloads.

There are apps out there that can help students with these hybrid learning struggles. Let’s take a look through some of the best.

Google Classroom

google classroom

Google Classroom is a highly popular platform for students and teachers alike. For students, it provides a one-stop-shop solution for finding necessary coursework, assignments, and more. Students can interact with their educators within the app, and even turn in assignments directly within the app itself.

Thanks to Google Classroom being a part of the Google Suite of apps, there are further integrations that help enrich the experience for students. Students can enhance their hybrid learning experience by integrating in their Google Calendars, Google Drive, or more.

For hybrid learning, Google Classroom provides students with simple, familiar solutions that help remove the fear of the unknown that many students are facing in unprecedented times. You can find a helpful resource for using Google Classroom here.

Khan Academy

With hybrid learning coming to the forefront of the education world, Khan Academy has provided students with more knowledge than ever. A free online course app, Khan Academy’s incredible array of features and resources help students learn every chance they have to do so.

Among Khan Academy’s top features include free interactive exercises, videos, and more, practice quizzes and tests, the ability to save online content to watch offline, and tailored programs that understand where a student’s learning levels are.

Without as much direct time spent with educators during a hybrid learning format, Khan Academy helps keep students engaged and growing, while helping parents feel comfortable with the new way of educating.

Bublup

One of the greatest challenges that students face in an unfamiliar educational environment is how to stay organized. While teachers aim to help with this, it’s up to the students themselves to stay organized and productive.

That’s where Bublup comes in for hybrid learning students. Bublup is a cloud storage app that prides themselves on three pillars: saving, organizing, and sharing.

Easily save important links, files, and more in Bublup folders and organize them by classes for maximum efficiency. Once you have your folders filled with items that will help with your hybrid learning, share them with classmates and collaborate on how to make the most out of projects (especially group projects!)

When you’re using Bublup, you’re staying organized, and knowing where all of your stuff is in a new environment will take a lot of the stress of hybrid learning away.

Schoology

Schoology

Similar to Khan Academy, Schoology is a  CODiE-award-winning learning management solution for students. Schoology prides itself on helping students: create and submit assignments, participate in interactive discussions, perform assessments, collaborate with peers, and more!

Hybrid learning can be an isolating experience for students used to learning alongside their peers. Schoology helps remedy that problem, as their interactive discussions help students stay connected, and their Groups pages help students work together on group projects.

The world of group projects has not ended with the introduction of hybrid learning, there’s just been a change in how students execute the necessary pieces of the puzzle. Schoology provides students with the necessary resources to work together and complete projects.

Padlet

Padlet provides students with an opportunity for fun collaboration with fellow students. Essentially a blank slate, Padlet lets students create anything from unique presentations, to study guides, to much, much more. Even better, students get to learn while feeling like they’re in control of their learning environments, somewhat of a struggle during the new hybrid learning environment.

Share class feedback, responses, and more in “Padlets” which are all custom created by students and teachers alike.

One of the most exciting features of Padlet is collaborative note-taking. Students won’t feel isolated at all when they’re taking notes alongside their fellow students like they’re sitting in the classroom with them still.
