The Joys and Inside Secrets of Being a Professional Photographer

For the last year, I’ve been visiting some amazing homes all over the world and creating photo and video content for these properties.

Traveling and exploring have always been passions of mine, but I never imagined they could be anything more than just passions. However, over time, I learned that I could do them as jobs, so I didn’t hesitate. For the last year, I’ve been visiting some amazing homes all over the world and creating photo and video content for these properties to use on their AirBNB pages, websites, social media, and more! It’s been a blast getting to do what I love as a job.

One of the best benefits of these collaborations is the fact that I always get to bring friends along for the trips. Having other content creators join me benefits the homeowners because we have more people working on getting the best content for the property. But let’s be real, it’s also always great to have friends join you at work! We get to spend days together in inspiring settings, which leads to a constant flow of creative juices.

One time it’s Italy, another time it’s France, but this time we hit Joshua Tree, and the six of us stayed at the beautiful Casa Codita. We spent our days by the pool and hot tub, grilling, working, taking photos, and when we finished with all that – hanging by the fire and watching the clear desert skies at night.

While it may seem like all relaxation and fun and games, there’s still plenty of work involved. I want to give you the full picture of what it’s like doing the work I do, so let me walk you through it!

Collaboration Made Easy

At the end of the trip, we have so much content from so many different cameras! Fortunately, we can keep everything organized and easily accessible by using Bublup.

Collaborating with multiple people and clients is sometimes daunting. But once you get the process down, it hardly feels like work.

We take interior photos the moment we arrive at the house, before everyone’s gear is scattered everywhere! Once we check off interior shots, we sit and discuss ideas for shots we want to get over the next few days and pair up with whoever makes the most sense to work with for that particular idea. See? Nothing crazy!

Now here’s where it can get a bit complicated. At the end of the trip, we have so much content from so many different cameras! Fortunately, we can keep everything organized and easily accessible by using Bublup to share our content.

I’ve been sharing all my work files with clients using folders for about a year now, and have day-to-day experience on how easy it is to collaborate via Bublup.

Any time there’s a new friend on a trip, I ask them to sign up for Bublup ASAP. My latest invite was to my friend Sandra, who texted me a week later to say Bublup was her new favorite app ever, and she’s using it with all her clients now, too! Let’s just say I wasn’t surprised to hear that!

As for collaborating with the clients themselves, once the content is uploaded, we can simply send an invite to them, and we’re done! There is no longer a need to upload large zip files, and having one link for everything makes it easier for the client too!

Here’s a pro tip just for you, Bublup community! When finished, add your favorite pictures to a photography portfolio!

Find a Place That Inspires You

You’ll know it’s your place when you feel you’re a part of a melting pot of inventiveness for photoshoots, video concepts, recipes, new startup ideas, and more.

To avoid getting burnt out by the work, you need to be able to keep your creative juices flowing. You would think that working in the creative sphere on a day-to-day basis would do that on its own, but that’s a common myth in the industry!

The “place” can be a mindset or a physical location! Whatever helps you feel the most productive. For me, there’s something to be said about the California desert when it comes to providing artistic inspiration because every single time we are out here, we can’t seem to stop coming up with new ideas.

However, your place may be Chicago, France, Italy, New York, Spain, wherever! You’ll know it’s your place when you feel you’re a part of a melting pot of inventiveness for photoshoots, video concepts, recipes, new startup ideas, and more. You’ll just know you’re there.

If you can work remotely, or have some vacation time to spare, I’d highly recommend getting together with a group of like-minded people for a few days and seeing what comes out of it. I promise you will not be disappointed. Collaborating with people- be it in person or on an online platform- is an incredibly rewarding experience.

And hey, you might have even found a new job!
